With work now starting on the complete rebuilding of the RSPCA Animal Shelter at Radcliffe on Trent, the Shelter is launching a massive fundraising campaign – the Great Radcliffe Rebuild.
The RSPCA Animal Shelter has been offering a sanctuary for homeless animals for more than 40 years. In that time, the buildings have become run down, difficult to maintain and expensive to heat. Now
planning permission has been granted to completely rebuild the Shelter to provide spacious, comfortable and modern accommodation for the 1,000 or more animals rehomed each year.
Building of Phase 1, three new kennel blocks, has already begun. The picture shows Mr Derek Richards, Chairman of the Trustees, cutting the first sod to start the ground work for the state-of-the-art kennel buildings. “We are extremely excited,” said Mr Richards, “This Rebuild will provide the animals we care for with the accommodation they deserve.”
Phase 1 will cost over £450,000 and the final cost of the whole Rebuild is expected to be approximately £2 million. The Shelter receives no funding from the government, National Lottery or the national RSPCA. So it is launching a fundraising campaign – the Great Radcliffe Rebuild – asking local people and companies for donations.
The Shelter is also promoting its Safe Haven kennel and cattery sponsorship scheme, for people who would prefer to donate a small amount each month towards the Shelter’s on-going running costs. The Radcliffe Shelter will remain open during the Rebuild.
Mr Richards summed up, “For the past 40 years, the work of the Radcliffe Shelter has only been possible through the generosity of local people and we believe that their generosity will not fail us now.”
