Page 5 - Kennel Assistant/Home Visitor/Fund Raiser
Aims
To assist in the care of dogs at the Animal Shelter under the supervision of a member of staff and to assist with administration as directed.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Prepare and provide food and water for dogs as instructed by a member of staff
- Clean, disinfect and maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness of the kennels and general work areas
- Attend to the exercise, socialising and grooming of dogs as instructed
- Follow all health and safety rules and procedures and ensure all accidents and incidents are reported immediately to the Manager/Deputy
- Work with staff members, other volunteers and trainees
- Assist in the handling of dogs for the purpose of examination and treatment
- Assist with the assessment and training programmes of dogs as instructed by a member of staff
- Assist in the up keep of animal records
- Carry out adoptions if and when appropriate training has been given and only if authorised by the Manager/Deputy
Additional Notes
- All Animals Must Remain Within Their Kennel Area Unless Instructed Otherwise By A Member Of Staff.
- The Shelter reserves the right to restrict volunteer access to the kennels or areas of the kennels for the purpose of preventing cross infection and the spread of disease.
- Volunteers must not handle or administer any medication unless authorised to do so by the Manager/Deputy.
- Volunteers must not carry out the micro chipping or vaccination of any animal unless authorised to do so by the Manager/Deputy and the correct Veterinary training has been given.
Home Visitor (must be over 25 years old)
Aims
To assist the Animal Shelter with carrying out pre and post home checks to ensure that all animals re homed by the RSPCA are placed in suitable homes.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To carry out home visits in accordance with the RSPCA re homing procedures and guidelines
- To report to the Home Visit Coordinator
- To attend training and meetings as required
- To be aware of the particular needs of an animal
- Inform the Shelter immediately of any concerns
- To complete the necessary documentation neatly and return to the Coordinator on completion of a visit
- To carry with you on all visits your RSPCA Volunteer Identity Card and return it to the RSPCA on resignation/expiry
- To offer appropriate advice and support to new owners
- Maintain the confidentiality of the Shelter
- To promote the Animal Shelter in a positive manner
Fund Raiser
Aims
To assist the Manager and the Animal Shelter in all fund raising activities and help maintain a positive approach towards the fund raising programme.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To participate in the organisation of fund raising and publicity events for the benefit of the Animal Shelter
- To promote public interest in the Animal Shelter and help maintain public support through raising awareness of its work and aims
- To help collect donations from the public for the benefit of the Animal Shelter
- To help identify and maximise new fund raising opportunities
- To assist with the handling, sorting and storage of donated goods to the Animal Shelter
- To maintain the confidentiality of the Trust
- To help ensure the health and safety of all visitors at fund raising events
- To work within the limits of the Charities Act at all times
