The George Fund

The George Fund

Why?

We recently ended a campaign to raise funds for George who was in urgent need of an operation. He was attacked by his father soon after he was born which caused damage to nerves and tendons in his leg. The campaign was so successful that George is now our figure head for raising funds for sick and injured pets.

We often take in sick and/or injured pets and without your help they would not survive.

Success Stories

We have many other stories of animals in distress that have benefited from The George Fund.

Here are just a few:

Brad

Brad

Brad came in with a broken pelvis following a road accident. He had to have strict cage rest for 4 months. Again, the shelter felt that a foster home would suit him best as he would require a great deal of human attention and mental stimulation to prevent him becoming bored. Brad is now completely back to health and has been adopted. One of the shelter's major bills is veterinary treatment for sick or injured animals and without this treatment many animals would fail to find new homes.

Hector

Hector

Hector was brought to the Shelter by a member of the public who found him wandering on the Main A52 on 14th May 2004. He was about 10 years old, and blind in both eyes due to cataracts.

However despite this he was a charming little dog and a real character. He had obviously been someone's pet because he had recently been clipped.

He refused to eat any dog food, it had to be human food and he would only eat if he was hand fed. All the staff took turns in tempting him with scrambled egg, roast chicken. He refused to eat the same food if it was served up twice!

The staff at the Shelter worked very hard to find him a home and contacted the Standard Poodle Rescue organisation.

Soon they came back with a lovely home for Hector with a lady in Wales and was adopted on 6th June 2004. He started off from the shelter very early one Sunday morning in a car that was going to take him to his new home. We have now heard that he has settled in well and is in a lovely home where he is continuing to be thoroughly spoilt, being hand fed and follows his new owner everywhere, never leaving her side.
