Page 2 - Cattery Assistant
Aims:
To assist in the care of cats at the Animal Shelter under the supervision of a member of staff and assist with administration as directed.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and provide food and water for the cats in the cattery as instructed by a member of staff
- Clean, disinfect and maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness of cat pods in the cattery and general work areas
- Attend to the exercise, socialising and grooming needs of the cats
- Follow all health and safety rules and procedures and ensure that all accidents or incidents are reported immediately to the Manager/Deputy
- Work with staff members and other volunteers and trainees
- Carry out adoptions if and when appropriate training is given and only if authorised by the Manager/Deputy
- Assist with the handling of cats for the purpose of examination and treatment
- Assist with the up keep of animal records
Additional Notes
- All cats must remain inside the cattery at all times and only removed from their pods with permission from the supervising member of staff.
- The Shelter reserves the right to restrict volunteer access to the cattery or certain areas within the cattery at any time for the purpose of preventing cross infection and the spread of disease.
- Volunteers must not handle medication or administer any medication to any animal unless authorised to do so by the Manager/Deputy.
- Volunteers must not carry out the micro chipping or vaccination of any animal unless authorised to do so by the Manager/Deputy and the correct Veterinary training has been given.
