The Radcliffe Animal Shelter was set up over 40 years ago to find dogs, cats and miscellaneous animals loving and permanent homes.
Many of the animals are brought in to us as unwanted and, through no fault of their own, they suddenly find themselves in entirely unfamiliar surroundings, thinking what have they done wrong to deserve this? It may be that their owners are moving house and do not want to take them; they have a new baby in the family and feel the pet may become jealous; their working commitments make it impossible to give the pet enough attention; or they simply cannot cope.
Giving a home to one of these animals is one of the most rewarding experiences especially when the first few weeks or months may not be entirely trouble free! If often takes them several weeks to settle in and feel secure in their new home. Many of our animals may have developed behavioural problems just as a result of the stress they have suffered and it takes a very special person to see beyond this stage.

The next stage is to pay us a visit because we simply cannot show you ALL the animals we currently have available and the selection is always changing.
We are open for viewing from 12.30 to 3.30pm every day except Wednesday when we are closed all day.
Outside of these hours we are still working with the animals, feeding, cleaning and exercising.
Please note an appointment is necessary to bring an animal to the shelter for rehoming as we very often do not have space available on the day to take the animal in.
Please note that there are occasions when we have to close the kennels for health and safety reasons. However our reception staff will be very happy to discuss what dogs we have which may be suitable for you and we can bring it up to meet you under cover in our reception area.
The weekends are always very busy so be prepared to wait if you wish to adopt an animal. However it is much quieter during the week.
Thank you for considering adopting an animal from Radcliffe and we look forward to showing you round our shelter. The staff are all highly trained and feel justifiably proud to be doing such a worthwhile job.
