Viewing the Cats

  • The shelter is open from 12.30 to 3.30 every day for viewing (no appointment necessary).
  • Each pen will have brief details about the cat such as its suitability with other animals and the age of children we recommend it to be re-homed with.
  • Certain cats may have a card stating "Not for Adoption"; the staff will not be able to discuss any details or potential adoption about these cats with you.

The Procedure

  • The first step in adopting a cat is to complete an adoption questionnaire.  This will help us match you with the most suitable cat.
  • Both your family and the cats will each have particular needs, depending on age, lifestyle and experience.  Our aim is to ensure that every adoption is successful.  Following a brief interview you will be directed towards suitable cats.
  • We will also need to see proof of address (such as a driving licence or household bill).
  • If your chosen cat appears to be a good match, an Animal Care Assistant will then introduce you.
  • We request that all members of the household meet the cat before placing a deposit down to ensure everybody is happy (including the cat) and that nobody develops an allergic reaction to the cat (as this can be a common problem).
  • If you live in rented accommodation we require permission in writing that you are allowed a cat in the property.

Reserving a Cat

  • Once all of the above criteria has been met you will be asked to pay a £20 deposit to place a reserve on the cat and an appointment will be made for you to collect them.
  • In some circumstances the cat may be able to go home with you there and then (however this is not guaranteed).
  • A home-visit will be arranged 4-6 weeks after adoption to ensure the cat is settling well and that you are not having any problems.

Collecting Your New Cat

  • Collection of animals is by appointment only.  Please do not attempt to collect without first making arrangements with the Shelter.
  • All cats are micro-chipped before adoption.  An identity disc will be prepared free of charge.  All cats must leave the shelter in a secure carrier for their own safety.
  • The remainder of the adoption fee is due when you collect.
  • Finally, we retain the legal ownership of animals adopted from us.  We reserve the right to check on their welfare for the rest of their lives.  If we have any cause for concern relating to their welfare, or if the adoption conditions are contravened, we are then able to reclaim them.
